The first we heard the funk/soul infused sounds of British producer Marcus Marr teaming up with (basically) Australia’s favourite human being of the year 2014 Chet Faker, was through their song The Trouble With Us, released a little over a month ago.
The song has since enjoyed a welcomed reception in Australia in particular, with many approving greatly of Chetdaddy flexing his funkier, more upbeat, more accessibly danceable music muscles (regardless of The Meeting Tree’s recently exposed thoughts on the matter via Cool Accidents).
The Trouble With Us has been getting a heap of support from Aussie radio, both alternative & commercial – and it has even been predicted by one triple j super nerd to crack the top three in this year’s Hottest 100 countdown. [If you have a good 10-15 mins to kill, get amongst the monster prediction essay here, it’s a solid read to say the least].
Having seemingly snuck under the radar, the latest song to be revealed from Marr & Faker’s forthcoming EP Work, was uploaded to Marr’s Soundcloud on Saturday morning. The 7-minute length song is titled Birthday Card, and yes, it is going to be popular. Fusing both the uptempo energy of The Trouble With Us with Faker’s signature slower, more laidback & stretched out vocal style, Birthday Card is pretty much guaranteed a few months of high rotation on triple j at minimum. Get in on it now before every other Tom, Dick & Harry is singing along as well.
