Media Release: Destrends Smash Through An Emotional Power Outage In New Single ‘Blackout’

Melbourne three-piece Destrends have built a reputation as a distinctly theatrical live outfit, with a sound influenced by early 80s post-punk. It is a unique blend, reminiscent of the new wave sound from the late 70s and early 80s with a gentle touch of gothic hysteria.

Brothers Matt (Vocals/Bass) and Nathan Savage (Drums) provide a powerful rhythm section augmented by accomplished guitarist Billy Watts (son of the late Robbie ‘Rocket’ Watts, former guitarist of Cosmic Psychos).

Since forming in 2014, Destrends have shared the stage with Mark Lanegan (Queens of the Stone Age), Hoodoo Gurus, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at the inaugural Gizzfest, as well as accompanying Stonefield and Apes on national tours. The band headlined for the Horror Movie Campout Festival around the country, and just recently played on 2017’s St. Kilda Festival.

Fresh from this large string of live shows, Destrends are excited to unveil brand new single Blackout, in the lead up to forthcoming EP Lousy Lover.

Of Blackout, Matt from the band states:

“Blackout is about the desire to pursue a toxic relationship, even when you know it isn’t good for you.  It’s about giving to much of yourself to someone and feeling as though it’s a one-way street. ‘Blackout’ represents the feeling of being emotionally exhausted”.

Blackout was one of the first songs Destrends wrote as a band, having gone through many lyrical changes alongside the boys’ personal lives over the years, to grow into what it is today.
It is the leading single of forthcoming EP Lousy Lover, due for release in late March 2017, and is expected to be taken on the road with a headline tour expected to kick off in April.
